Fret Dressing $85

Over time and with heavy usage the strings gradually wear away at the frets causing shallow grooves on the surface of the frets. This is most often the case with the frets nearest the nut.

Apart from visible wear the signs that a guitar needs a fret dress are that it plays out of tune or there is abnormal amount of fret buzz. A fret dress is often required on a new guitar as the manufacturer does not always pay close attention to this detail.

During the fret dressing process the frets are levelled, removing the grooves caused by string wear. Once level, the frets are recrowned to the correct profile, polished & buffed.

There comes a point in a guitars life when the frets have been worn so much that they cannot be properly dressed and it becomes necessary to replace them . During a refret the original frets are carefully removed and replaced with new ones.

Frets can be replaced for other reasons such as changing the gauge to suit the customers preferences. Large frets allow for easier string bending and improve sustain for example.

All refretting work includes a full setup.
